Basic membership – GENERAL OSTEOPATHY, RESEARCH AND JOURNAL HUB – annual subscription

This is a 12 month subscription.  You will need to upload a copy of your osteopathic qualification to remain a basic member.  Please allow a few weeks for us to process this. Once you are a Basic Member, you can enjoy some free content, and you are also eligible to join the special interest groups or the independent practitioner register.

THIS IS WHERE WE GET TO TALK OSTEOPATHY, DEFEND OSTEOPATHY, EXPLORE OSTEOPATHY, AND TO HAVE AN OPEN SPACE RESPECTFUL OF WHATEVER ASPECTS OF OSTEOPATHIC CARE WE IDENTIFY WITH.

The general membership is for every type of osteopathic approach – be it structural, cranial, visceral, general, functional, blended or whatever ‘your’ style of practice is, or what aspect of osteopathic philosophy it is ‘oriented’ around. Get updates and perspectives on a range of information about osteopathic principles, their current interpretation, their application in practice and what they mean to you as an individual osteopath or person who applies osteopathic principles and philosophy.

Here you can learn how to work within an Evidence Informed Framework, but importantly to get an idea of what evidence is in support of osteopathic principles, rather than always focusing on what evidence is lacking – to often absence of evidence is taken as evidence of a failed clinic pathway and is used as a vehicle to constrain practice.  ISOHC believes that we need to identify gaps in evidence yes, but to find out how to develop research strategies that actually explore osteopathic principles, rather than use other evidence to limit osteopathic discussion.

Here you can find evidence in support of your field of care.  This can still be done in a way which highlights gaps and illustrate what still needs answering – rather than continuously closing the debate on evidence informed practice.  The general membership aims to explore where research gaps are and how an evidence framework can be built and shared.  THIS CATEGORY OF MEMBERSHIP IS ALSO ABOUT HAVING OPPORTUNITIES ABOUT LEARNING TO CRITIQUE, TO USE AND DESIGN RESEARCH, UNDERTAKE AUDIT AND TO MANAGE YOUR EVIDENCE INFORMED PRACTICE.

The general membership category also helps gets information and ideas about osteopathy out into the public arena. We have a Journal – the Journal of Osteopathic Health – which is currently in development. Get support in submitting an article into our Journal (in development).

Accordingly, within the general membership we operate an article writing club, and can help you submit your work into our Journal, which will then put it through an independent peer review process and can help you pass on your understanding and knowledge and clinical experiences – you help with the patients and we help with the writing, evidence and publication!
